Restylane or Hyaluronic Dermal Fillers

Restylane, a hyaluronic dermal filler is a quick and safe procedure which has very little impact on usual activity on the day of injection. Tiny injections are delivered to smoothen wrinkles on the skin.

Care of the Injection Sites

You may like to observe the following to allow the Restylane to work optimally in the target area:

■ Avoid touching and massaging the treated area in the first 4 hours. In addition, try to avoid flexing and stretching the facial muscles too.

■ Avoid excessive alcohol consumption the day before and after treatment.

■ Avoid wearing tight caps/ headbands.

■ Keep upright for 4 hours following the treatment.

■ Light exercise can be resumed after 4 hours.

■ If there is redness or bumpiness, apply a lightweight cold or cool compress to the treated area for a few minutes after the procedure, but avoid massaging.

■ Gentle cleansing and moisturiser/make up application with clean hands is okay.

Avoid Intense Light or Heat Exposure

■ Over exposure to heat and sunlight should be avoided as they might increase swelling and bruising at the injection site.

■ Similarly sunbeds, chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing/tightening and other laser enhancements should also be avoided as they may cause inflammation.

Resuming normal activities

Normal daily activity can be resumed immediately after treatment.

After 4 hours, light exercise can be performed

■ Walking

■ Jogging

■ Gentle yoga or pilates classes, avoid lying down or upside down positions

Wait 24 hours before strenuous exercise, such as

■ Weight training

■ Cross training

■ HIIT exercise

■ Long distance running

What to Expect After your Treatment

Swelling

■ Swelling varies from person to person, but should subside in the first few days after injection. Over-the-counter pain medication can be taken to minimise discomfort.

■ Lips are very sensitive, and the swelling in the lips may appear uneven. Results should be stable after the swelling has subsided in about 7-14 days.

■ Application of a clean, cool pack very gently to the area can soothe the lips and help reduce swelling.

■ Cold sores may appear in people who have a history of them, and application of an over-the-counter anti-viral cream is recommended.

Bruising

■ Taking aspirin or other similar blood-thinning medication, and excessive alcohol consumption is associated with a higher likelihood of bruising.

■ The appearance of any bruising can be minimised with make-up.

■ Cold or cool compress and the application of Arnica cream can help bruising heal more quickly.

Tenderness

■ Tenderness in the injection areas is expected. Over-the-counter pain medication can be taken to alleviate discomfort.

Itching

■ There may be some itchiness for up to 7-14 days. Over-the-counter anti-itch medication can be taken to relieve symptoms.

Please call Artiste Studios if

■ You are experiencing symptoms more intense or of longer duration than those described above.

Taking Care of Your Treatment

The beauty of non-surgical treatments is that they are non-invasive and not permanent; when the treatment wears off, you will look as you did before you had the treatment.

Treatment can be repeated, at that time or left for a longer duration. Scientific evidence shows that the effects of fillers generally last about 12-16 weeks in lips, or otherwise about 6-12 months.
